AKA: Shades Of A Woman Philadelphia is a womanist, writer, photo and documentary journalist, human rights defender and activist. Born in Louis Trichardt, raised and living in Daveyton, Benoni. Shades of a Woman is the pseudonym she uses to depict and archive a virtual history of black excellence and a critique of socio-economics and political leadership. She also questions the self to explore in her work a collective history of an era without erasure and continues to impose rebellion of the status quo. Makwakwa has a BA Media Studies from the University of Johannesburg, as well as a past study of the Market Photo Workshop in Newtown, in Photojournalism and Documentary photography.
